Gerald
will illustrate some of the lines of research carried
out at Callanish, including the rediscovery of lost
features by combining documentary studies with work
in the field. The relationships of the Callanish Stones
to the skies and to the surrounding landscape were investigated
in detail. This led, over 25 years ago, to the realisation
that the low path of the moon at its southern extreme
interacted with the stones and with horizon features
such as the Sleeping Beauty. The theory took on a life
of its own, resulting in the crowds who gathered to
observe the phenomenon in 2006.
