The African continent has been largely neglected in the studies of megaliths and stone circles. This illustrated talk introduced the continent and explored its stone circles and their astronomy, looking at the pre-dynastic peoples of Africa. It covered sites at Nabta Playa, Namoratunga, Senegambia, Bouar, Borana, and Great Zimbabwe.
Charles Stirton was born in Pietermaritzburg South Africa and has lived in the UK since 1978. He was the Founding Director of the National Botanic Garden of Wales and Deputy Director of Kew Gardens. He is currently a Trustee of The Gateway Gardens Trust. He has a particular interest in ancient wisdom, especially of Africa, and was a founding trustee of the Ouroboros Research and Education Trust. He is the author of four books and 125 scientific publications and is currently working on three books entitled Emerging Wisdom, The History of Seven and Shards of Silence. He has had two plant genera named after him: Stirtonia & Stirtonanthus.
